My New Desk
My eyes stung as I blinked the tears away. I picked up my pen and put it in the bag. I glanced over to my colleague to see that she was wiping her eyes. I'd been in this job for almost ten years. The whole of my 20th decade was spent sitting at the desk I was now clearing.
'You're going to do so well,' my colleague said, grabbing my shoulders and giving me a hug. I choked but no matter what I did, I couldn't get the tears to stop. They trickled down my face as I said goodbye to such a big portion of my life.
'Thank you,' I eventually replied when I could speak.
'Are you having a break or diving straight in?'
'I'm diving straight in. On Monday morning, I'll be a full time author.'
Today is that day! Monday is here and this morning I started my dream job. I have no idea if it will last. I have no idea if my books will sell, but I'm jumping in and praying that the universe will help me to achieve my dream. It only takes one leap of faith to land where you want to be. I wasn't actually given much of a choice after being made redundant, but it seemed like the perfect opportunity. When something like that happens, I always take it as a sign!
What is your dream job?
